Royce Glen Steed of Greenville, Texas, went to be with his Lord on January 14, 2024, at his home with his family beside him.

Funeral services will be held at Highland Terrace Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 21, 2024, with Rev. Ralph Anderson, Dr. James Ralson and Mr. John Erickson officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the church. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Glen was born in Panola County, Texas on June 14, 1933, to parents, James Bruce Steed and Ollie Mae Bowen Steed. Glen was the youngest of four siblings: sisters, Hazel Barker, Martha Wilcox, Deane Harlor and brother, J. B. Steed.

Glen married his high school sweetheart Peggy Spurlock in 1951 and together they had two children. Glen and Peggy had just celebrated 72 years of marriage in November of 2023.

Glen was Godly man who served his Lord and his community. He was an independent businessman in Greenville, Texas for 51 years and was on the founders of Aldersgate Church. He also filled the position of pastor and helped to establish churches in Lone Oak and Caddo Mills. Glen was a founder of the Greenville Christian School and served on the board of directors for 17 years. He was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.

Glen served the citizens of Greenville in several capacities. He was a former member of the Greenville Planning and Zoning Commission, the board of directors of FISH Ministries, the board of directors of Greenville Habitat for Humanity, and the board of directors of the Greenville Lake and Water Company (Club Lake) where he served as president. He also served on the Greenville City Council and served as Mayor Pro-tem.

Glen is survived by his wife, Peggy Steed and son, Jeff Steed both of Greenville; his daughter, Jill Schroeter and her husband, Brad Schroeter; and grandsons, Jakob and Jonathan Schroeter all of Richardson, Texas.

Glen is also survived by 6 nieces, Judy Gallatin of Irving, Linda Williams and Lana Dollgener of Greenville, Pam Steed of Gilmer, Texas Deanna Hallam of Jasper, Texas and Vicki Miller of Sherman, Texas.

Glen is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters and brother; along with nephews Dewey Wayne Barker, Ronnie Becknell and Mark Wilcox.

Glen was truly a great man who was loved by many. His wisdom and Godly counsel will be missed by both family and friends.

Pallbearers will be John Christian, III, Hew Hamilton, Kip Marion, Dylan Ragan, Jakob Schroeter and Jonathan Schroeter. Honorary pallbearers will include Bob Adams, Nathan Barrett, Dee Hilton, Larry Hollon, Frank Marion, Don Taylor, David Williams and Ray Wallen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland Terrace Baptist Church and the Greenville Christian School.
