Bernice Ellis

Bernice Florence Klein Ellis, 89, of Greenville, Texas, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 27, 2024, at her residence surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Nathan Layman and Dr. James Ralson. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. It was her wish that this would be a time of celebration and those who attend would wear cheerful colors.

Bernice was born May 7, 1935, in Fredericksburg, Texas to Hilmer and Elenora Klein. She married Ray Ellis on February 18, 1955, in Uvalde, Texas. She was the Administrative Director for the Greenville YMCA and later worked as the Church Secretary for Cedar Grove Baptist Church. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church and attended a house church lead by Pastor Charles M. Deskins and his wife Judi.

Bernice is survived by her six children, Brenda Schlafke, Debra Brumley, Terri Day and husband, Richard, Jacque Wimberley and husband, Ron, Shauna Chaffin and husband, Chance, Michael Ellis; sister, June Kaiser and husband, Ernie; 27 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and beloved sister, Dorothea Schmid and husband Jimmy that she is now reunited with in heaven for eternity. Bernice spent her life sharing the love of Jesus at every opportunity. It was her most fervent wish that all would come to trust in Christ.
