Billy Burton Wisdom

I served in the Army.
Billy Burton Wisdom, 77, of Greenville passed away on July 23, 2024, at Greenville Gardens surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be 3:30 PM, Sunday, July 28, 2024, in the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Knox officiating. Visitation will be from 2:30 PM until service time Sunday.
Billy was born on January 8, 1947, in Vernon, Texas to William May Wisdom and Reba Pauline Grimsley Wisdom. Billy was a member of the 101st Airborne Division of the Texas National Guard. Billy married the love of his life Vicki Baker on September 8, 1984, in Greenville, Texas. Billy was a family man, loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Billy was known as ''PawPaw'' by his grandchildren, and he loved rocking them in his rocking chair. Billy was a kind-hearted man, who never met a stranger, he was hardworking and loved the farm life. Billy was a long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he was a Communion Steward for twelve years, and was very devoted to his church. Billy enjoyed officiating sports and his favorite games to umpire were softball and volleyball. Billy officiated sports for over twenty plus years and drove a bus for Greenville ISD for eight years. Animals loved Billy and were naturally attracted to him, even though he tried unsuccessfully to pretend he didn't enjoy it. Cows, parakeets, hamsters, and dogs, among others, were drawn to him and often took direction from him. Billy smartly often ate cheetos with a spoon so that his hands wouldn't get dirty. He loved sneaking cookies from the pantry, but, more often than not, he got caught. Billy had an innate talent for packing things in a truck or trailer in order to maximize the space. On Christmas mornings, he set the example for spirit, and never rested until every scrap of torn wrapping paper, ribbon, and tape had made it into his trash bag. In Billy's spare time he enjoyed sitting down and working on a crossword puzzle.
Billy is survived by his loving wife Vicki Wisdom, son Chris Wisdom and wife Kirsten, daughters; Holly Taylor, Keli Anderson and husband Dale, Kathryn Douglas and husband Josh, Liz Wisdom, Melanie Tippit and husband Shelby, grandchildren; Cooper, Landree, Eden, Ellie, Paxtynn, Emmy, Briggs, Baker, Jack and Greer.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to be made to the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department, in memory of Billy Wisdom address is 2703 Traders Rd, Greenville, TX. 75402

Billy was a kind neighbor who always looked out for us. On a number of occasions, he came quickly to our door to tell us a kid had escaped out into the front yard.

Our prayers are with the family he left behind.
