Linda Joyce Smithey
July 4, 1928 - August 7, 2024

Linda J. Smithey, 96, passed away in her home in Greenville, Texas, on Wednesday, August 7, 2024; she had been a resident of Greenville since 1986. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1200 E. Joe Ramsey Blvd., Greenville, Texas, 75402. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on July 4, 1928 to Edward Ince and Ada Devers Ince. She married Douglas Smithey.

Her professional career included Editor of Texas Assessors News and Executive Secretary of the Association of Assessing Officers; Vice President at TD Industries in Dallas, Texas, and President of Soloman Associates in Los Angeles, California. The last twenty plus years she worked for Pete Haayen, first in insurance and last in private business with the Haayen family. She developed and taught a non-credit course for Women in Business at Southern Methodist University; served as President of Executive Women International and in Dallas on the board of various civic organizations.

Linda joined Wesley United Methodist Church in 1987. She loved her church and made many lifelong friends there. She was the first Chairman of the Prayer Ministry Committee; served as President of the Alpha Class and on most all the church committees. Her faith was a basic part of her life.

She is survived by her sons, Rick L. Reid, Brian Smithey, Alfred E. Smithey, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
