Keith was born in Dallas, Texas, on May 8, 1951, to Oliver Gene and Essie Irene Head Carter. He graduated from Seagoville High School in 1969. Immediately after completing his BS degree at the University of North Texas, he joined the United States Air Force in 1974. While serving, he flew on various aircraft, including service as a Reconnaissance Systems Officer (RSO) on the SR-71 Blackbird. He retired from the US Air Force in 1993 with the rank of Major. He went on to attain an MS in Organizational Behavior and have a successful career in finance.
Keith was most proud of his role as father to his sons, Mason and Evan Carter, which he shared with his ex-wife, Libbi Herman. He is survived by Mason, Evan, Libbi, his siblings James Carter, Rebecca Haworth, Theresa Dixon, her husband Condy, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Keith is being planned. The family anticipates it will be in the early Fall.
Memorial donations to commemorate Keith's life may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
